In a Friday night matchup, the Rome Braves fell 4-1 to the Hot Rods of Bowling Green.

9th Inning: 4-1 Final

The Braves failed to score again, leading to a 4-1 loss. Keyshawn Askew receives the win for Bowling Green thanks to his 3 shutout innings of relief pitching, and Griswold gets the loss for Rome after his rough 8th-inning outing. The Rome Braves are now 32-40 on the season and will face Bowling Green again Saturday in their next game as they look to get back in the win column.

8th Inning: 4-1 Hot Rods

Bowling Green takes the lead with a 3-run inning. Rob Griswold came in for Rome and walked the first two batters, then gave up a home run to Bob Seymour. Another walk and a hit-by-pitch were given up before he stranded the two runners by getting three straight outs. The Braves did not score in the bottom of the 8th. Griswold is in line for the loss if this score holds.

7th Inning: 1-1

Bowling Green tied it up in the 7th on a two-out RBI single by Jalen Battles. Nick Schnell scored the run after getting to second with a double off Jonathan Hughes. Rome did not score in the bottom of the 7th. Luis Vargas finished his night with 5 innings and no runs allowed, he is not in line to receive a win or loss on his record.

4th Inning: 1-0 Braves

After three scoreless innings for both teams, shortstop Ignacio Alvarez broke the tie with a solo home run off of reliever Austin Vernon. He ambushed the right-hander on the first pitch, sending Vernon’s breaking ball deep into left-center field for his second longball on the season. Luis Vargas still looks good through four innings, only giving up two hits.

1st Inning: 0-0

After one inning, the score is still knotted up at zero. Luis Vargas got the start for Rome, and he is facing Antonio Menendez of Bowling Green. A walk by Vargas was the only base runner of the inning. Both starting pitchers look sharp to begin the game, with neither getting into trouble in the first.
